Langzaam maar zeker begint Art The Hague, de origineel Haagse kunstbeurs, zich te ontwikkelen tot een beurs die wat vlees op de botten heeft. Ik liep met veel plezier rond, op zoek naar de krenten in de pap. Die krenten waren ditmaal veel te vinden en ook Haagse kunstenaars waren daar medeverantwoordelijk voor. Onderweg hoorde ik een gerucht dat galeriehouders gevraagd was om vrouwelijke kunstenaars te tonen, maar àls ze zich hiervan wat aantrokken, dan is dat voornamelijk te zien in de afdeling ATH “Vrouw in de kunst”, een randgebeuren met kunst van vrouwelijke kunstenaars. Op de beurs zelf waren ook wat kunstenaarsinitiatieven te zien, wat me een heel zinvolle toevoeging lijkt die ook wat leven brengt tussen de serieuze galeries. Daar begin ik dus maar mee:

De Bcademie is het wel toevertrouwd een verrassende presentatie te maken.

Op Een van de Acht-waardige wijze laten zij een kleine heftruck werkjes op een pallet naar voren rijden en op een plek met een te vragen prijs plaatsen.

Begerenswaardige werkjes van begeleiders van deze post-academische opleiding zijn voor gunstprijzen te verkrijgen, hier Daan den Houter en Jeroen Kusters

Uw correspondent draagt ook werk bij, opgehouden door Bcademie’s Alex Jacobs

Het collectief Popinnart presenteert op een meisjeskleurtje en vroeg bijdragen met ronde vormen. Een aantal bekende namen zitten hiertussen…

Ik zal ze niet allemaal opnomen, maar dit paneeltje van Albert Zwaan vond ik wel wat.

Platforms Project 2019 – The Fair

KOPEKT (Corect) is a group that shows an attitude sooner than artworks. I could find myself right away in this referential amalgam.

At Daily Temporary from Sweden I was asked to participate in a performance by Leticia Maria from Palma.

I was the surface for a projection of the art-cake that was made by visitors

The visitors got an apron and started to get creative on the cake which was projected on my belly…

 

Political art by studio Asynchrome at Kunsthalle Graz

Nice work by the Greek-Rotterdam artist Maria Ikonomopoulou at Vita Zita Studio

Various Artists from Bruxelles (B) showed a fantastic project in which they have the audience make their own artwork

The result is always minimalistic and beautiful. This is “Pocketwork” -Carbon on paper worn in the pocket for two or three months.

Orphaned Images: Video-cakes by The museum of Forgetting

Topp and Dubio from Den Haag participated with an intricate installation about a sign in a shop they encountered.

Another platform from Den Haag is Elders with Paintings by Lucius Pax and Liesbeth Bos, ceramics by Corine Barendregt and photographic work by Liesbeth van Woerden.

Which is clear when you get closer, the artist writes and paints on the back of the paper with wax

Lucia Bricco showed the stage for her performances at Sub Rosa Space from Athens

Kunsthalle Kleinbasel shows vulva’s by Nina Herrmann under the name Where are you from?

Galleria Rajatila from Tampere in Finland shows these little pieces that I like.

Heidi Lincke’s work at Scotty from Berlin is great, but making pictures in this light is difficult. The rapper worked with Kendrick Lamar

ID:I Gallery from Stockholm uses textwork, though Alexander Mood seems to be sleeping on the side it is an interesting installation

I Always like the beautiful small collages by Sandra Gea. Here she seems to broaden her perspective

This light and airy installation was a nice surprise from Backspace in Athens, done by artists group Bo.Ba (Katarina Botsari and Eleanna Balesi)

The Bcademie, a post academic course in Rotterdam, was also present with the old Dutch game of pulling strings and win an Artwork

Amongst which this SD-card on which the whereabouts of a buried artwork is indicated, by Lucas van Eeden

This is done by Kimon Kirligitsis and it has soon disappeared

This is by the same artist, it did not take long for this one to be chosen by a winner.

The Alpineum Produzentegalerie shows great painting by Reto Leuthold

This drawing was shown at Pow Wow: Coming in Waves by Katerina Papazissi

The beautiful presentation of IS-Projects shows American abstractionists from NewYork

At Und. the work of Vasilis Bótoulas stood out. It was an interesting stand of a cultural site that issues maps of cultural spaces in Athens and has an interesting blog. Check und-athens.com

In the evening Lucia Bricco continued her performance “The morning, The morning, the morning by entering with a blanket with technical toys in a blanket that she carried like a baby. She then let it all fall on teh ground, wound the toys around her head as you can see here

A bigger machine came at her, trying to get pieces of the ground

She put toys under her shirt, let them fall again and then had another coffee

And EX-MÊKH was talking again, with colleagues, with student, with visitors…

Platforms Project 2018 – day 4

After a walk in the park I joined Platforms Project again to finish our project. On this day a lot of performances took place of which I missed some, but I think I caught the most of it. Here’s an account of the last day:

 

The park near Syntagma was beautiful with the purple flowers falling

All of a sudden I was pointed at the Republic of Banania that was cutting a litttle book of mine to have a passport photo. Now someone is having a passport with a painting of Ezra Pound!

Across, around the corner someone installed this piece at the 24 hours project

This also is a nice casual intallation at Ormston House, from Ireland

From Canada AKA & UAS presented Walter Scott with great contemporary drawing.

Of course Guillaume Krick was present again, his platform Bureau d’Art et de Recherche presented his 3D work and that of Clara Juliane Glauert. Here Guillaume performs inspired by his sculpture!

The great Linda Weiss shows her work with Scotty from Berlin

And of course our friends from the Bcademie had their ways of making fun again, they organized a lottery: for € 2,- one could buy one of the obects on the floor. If it had a sticker on the back, you could take your pick…

And still some performances were due, here three ladies entered singing orthodox song while a performer creeped to the exit in sheets

like a snail trying to get out…

After Hours: I forgot to take a picture of the great piece of Gianin Conrad at Diensgebäude, probably because we saw it all the time

And I liked it every time!

Of Course Rosa Lux was also present with work by Tony Domingos

And this project was also worth wile: Danae Stratou at Vital Space created this beautiful site-specific installation of which documentation was presented.

The Milena Project showed this last minute performance by this classical dancer

Next to us was an installation by Angela Brisnovali at LaLa Artgroup from Greece that I liked more and more

Especially this work on paper

And finally our last collage was taken off the wall

And put into the pool

After which everything was displayed

The day and Platforms Project 2018 ended in music and dance, next morning early I would return home!

This Art Fair

Kerstmis is geweest en Nieuwjaar komt er aan, tijd voor een ritje naar Amsterdam, naar de Beurs van Berlage om This Art Fair te bezoeken. Deze beurs heeft intussen al een hele ontwikkeling doorgemaakt, van huizen in the Red Light zone naar het chique beursgebouw aan het Damrak. De exposanten zijn een amalgaam van galeries, kunstpodia, pas afgestudeerde en ook meer ervaren kunstenaars: het is een levendige boel. Het viel me op dat dit keer veel samenwerkingen te zien waren en meer dan eens van echtelieden. Daarnaast goede galeries, ook uit het buitenland. Bij deze een indruk van de preview:

Maureen Jonker, bekend van het Apprentice Master Project van vorig jaar, maakte een beeld dat toeschouwers door de tentoonstellingsruimte kunnen bewegen

Iris Zenden, ook een AMP-alumna, laat werk zien dat met tijd en geld te maken heeft.

Deze video hangt heel mooi tegenover het cash-register in de vorige foto!

Ook Johnny Wiekhart heeft weer nieuw werk, hij maakt goede stappen!

Julius Stibbe is misschien wel een heel harde combinatie met Wiekhart

AMP-alumnus Chris Rijk heeft zijn werk in de vrije ruimte geïnstalleerd, niet minder sterk, maar in een meer intieme ruimte zou het nog beter tot zijn recht komen naar mijn idee.

Waar tenslotte ook Kevin Bauer beelden presenteert

Torch Gallery is ook aanwezig met o.a. nieuw werk van Tinkerbell die dit keer naar Fukushima is geweest. Zij verzamelde daar plaatselijke flora die ze ook in beton goot, als schaduwen van wat eens was.

En dan is de B-cademie ook zeer aanwezig met o.a. oud-galeriehouder Jaap Sleper die als adviseur/begeleider van de post-academische cursisten zorgt dat de ter plekke gemaakte tekeningen beschaafd en tegen een redelijke prijs aan de muur komen te hangen.

Sanne Maes had juist een tentoonstelling bij Ruimtevaart waar veel werk te zien was, maar nog niet deze mooie studies

Ook HEDEN was aanwezig met bekend werk uit recente tentoonstellingen. Deze mooie foto van Lorena van Bunningen had ik nog niet gezien

En tenslotte de Schilderijencentrale (René van Duinkerken) die altijd wel een glimlach op mijn gezicht krijgt.

Naar aanleiding van de Uitdagen Rotterdam werd de B-cademie uitgenodigd een tentoonstelling te maken om ook beeldende kunst in het festival vertegenwoordigd te laten zijn. Daartoe werd een grote betonnen ruimte aangeboden waar heel veel te zien zou kunnen zijn, maar te elfder uren werd dat veranderd in een veel kleiner chique winkelpand aan de Kruiskade, tegenover Oger (waar ook onze MP zijn pakken van betrekt). Dit pand was een betrekkelijk goede ruimte om de kunst die was aangemeld te herbergen. Anique Weve en Lisa Blaauwbroek, die respectievelijk als curator en als productieassistent de tentoonstelling manageden hebben een wonder verricht met het inrichten van de tentoonstelling waardoor een levendig geheel nog steeds te bezoeken is tot zondagavond 18.00 u. Uitgenodigd werden alumni en begeleiders van de Bcademie. Bij deze een indruk:

This Art Fair, de kleine winterbeurs in het gebouw van Berlage, is dit jaar de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Het lijkt er op dat de politiek van vernieuwing haar werk doet: naar verluid kan je niet meer dan twee keer mee doen. daardoor ontstaat een verschuivend deelnemersveld wat de variatie en verrassing ten goede komt. Bij deze een indruk van de huidige beurs waar wat verrassend sterke presentaties te zien zijn:

De brommer is ook aanwezig. De fotoserie van Michiel van Nieuwkerk met o.a. Michiel Romeyn en een buikschuiver verschijnt wekelijks in het Parool

Synchronicity , een samenwerking tussen Waalko Dingemans en Jeroen Paalvast. Zij maakten een lemniscaat met werken erin

en dat oogt tof!

Een strakke presentatie van Petra Laaper doet het ook goed

Zij werkt met voornamelijk met textiel, beetje minimalistisch hier.

Dan de Bcademie met een bijna niet te overtreffen frisse presentatie van studenten die gifgroene tosti’s met zwarte wodka aanbieden

Dit oogt professioneel

en dit gewoon goed met excuus voor de groothoek

Van dit soort werk bestaat een hele serie, bijzonder gaaf

Ik vraag me af hoe dergelijke foto’s er op groot formaat uit zien

Op zoek naar licht

Een schets voor een performance

Een schilderij op verrassende drager

Buiten staat nog een interessant beeld van Christin Mussa

en on the way out kom ik nogmaals Crutches tegen

Bcademie

Vandaag ben ik uitgenodigd als gastdocent aan de Bcademie, een particuliere post-academische kunstopleiding die wordt gerund door Alex Jacobs en Daan den Houter.  Ik had al met hen kennis gemaakt tijdens de laatste Platforms Project in Athene: “De opzet van de Bcademie is de net afgestudeerde kunstenaars wegwijs te maken in de kunstwereld, te helpen bij vragen en de grens tussen oude en jonge kunstenaars te verkleinen. D.m.v. groepsdynamiek en het bekijken van werk van de andere studenten, creëren we ruimte waarbinnen ze van elkaar leren. De deelnemers verkrijgen inzicht in de verschillende manieren waarop je je als kunstenaar kan bewegen in de (kunst-) wereld. ”
De studenten geven een presentatie van recente activiteiten, er is een lunch en de gastdocenten doen een presentatie van hun eigen kunstenaarschap waarbij met name aandacht is voor de mate waarin hun persoonlijke ontwikkeling in diverse opzichten invloed heeft gehad op de beroepspraktijk. De tweede gastdocent die is uitgenodigd is Annemarie van den Berg, bekend van o.a. PinkPonyExpress.

Waarna de studentpresentaties een aanvang nemen. Ik kan me de bijbehorende namen niet meer herinneren, waarvoor excuus. Hier onderzoek naar de sculpturale mogelijkheden van een hand

En meer schetsen voor een performance

Na een tiental presentaties werd een gezamenlijke lunch bereid

Die was bijzonder smakelijk en werd ook in geanimeerde sfeer genoten

De eerste gastdocent: Annemarie van den Berg kreeg de beamer!

Zij vertelde over de mechanismen die zich bij een samenwerking voordoen met als voorbeeld haar ervaringen met PinkPonyExpress

Waarvan zij projecten liet zien die tegen sociaal/antropologisch onderzoek aanhangen. Hier een voorbeeld van een vroege eigen installatie, illegaal in de openbare ruimte geplaatst.

En tot slot een evaluatie van de dag met bier en chips!

Op het laatst spotte ik ook nog snel een mooi werkje van Daan den Houter aan de wand die ik nog even mee neem!

Platform Project & Art Athina 2016

In spite of the crisis atmosphere in Athens and the refugee-problems that haunt the country the Athens artfair took place again this year. The Taekwondo Stadium had been occupied with refugees in winter during heavy rains which resulted in a lot of problems.  Nevertheless, the fair continued but the big galleries in Greece didn’t show up and the galleries that did show up were very conservative in their choice of artists. The Platform Project on the other hand was very interesting this year. It is always worth to visit but now the side show for non-commercial art platforms showed great art and awareness of the human and the political situation which in some cases led to  moving art works.

Derek Liddington at 8Eleven, a very interesting sculptor. these are studies after an Elsworth Kelly drawing

This video was shot by Liddington, having four actors making a pillar of clay and creating a tension between disciplines

 

This was an ongoing performance in 8eleven in which a dancer would reenact the choreography “Ode” which was executed by les Ballets Russes in 1913. The floor on which the dancer moved was a square meter of clay

I found this work very moving: in an inter-active work, Navine Khan Dossos tries to paint the 2000 people that have sought refuge in the Taekwondo Stadium last winter. Visitors and colleagues are invited to contribute as the artist will continue to paint until the end of the fair.

This beautiful Painting has been made by an icon-painter for Kallio Kunsthalle (FI), following the text that Petri Saariko had prepared.

At MUU (F) the performance artist Helinä Hukkataival showed a very sensitive performance

resulting in a beautiful series of personae

From the Netherlands came Bcademie, a post-graduate training for artists (after A you have to say B). Here initiators Alex Jacobs and Daan den Houter talk with their students, of which six were doïng performances durig the fair. One for a Euro!
