Today I visited some of the stands at Platforms Project 2018 to check out what they were doïng, here are some things I liked:
But first I put up my third drawing from the Athens Diaries at the EX-MÊKH booth
Pantelis Vitaliotis at Space 52 from Greece
Happy Water by Daniela Domingues at Alisn from London: a video of an old aquaduct in Rome where they put a tenniscourt right next to it. In front are sculptures with a tennisball-imprint
I like those as a sculpture
The representative of Alisn was happy to participate at the EX-MÊKH booth
From our Home-town Den Haag: Elders! A flatiron and a wide open handbag are sweeping through space
Democracy in visual arts: the public can change the images
Our neighbours from Sweden are nice guys, this is made by Peter Westman of Daily Temporary. The material is sunken wood that has been taken from the water
Ed’s video from Canada had nice pieces like this Mountainview by Xiaojing Yan

IDI Gallery had some nice pieces like these
I thought I heard the sound of a didgeridoo, but it was the vynil recording of a human voice. Very interesting sound and letter experiments at Random from Italy
Sandra Gea made a beautiful autobiografical collage and shows it at Binary Art Group from Malta
As is this beautifull weaving
IS-projects is a very interesting platform from Leiden (NL). International abstract art in wonderful presentations, an oasis in this fair, curated by Richard van der Aa!
Das Esszimmer from Bonn (G) is an interesting platform too, here with the work of Geneviève Morin
Which I really like for the painterly quality
Meanwhile an avantgarde jam-session is taking place at Daily Temporary. Exhibiting artist Lars Asling bought an old guitar and invites people to come play with him
The Wonderful MUU from Helsinki has a number of video’s to show amongst which Jukka Sillokunas stood out with this video about vanishing toy-pets. MUU also showed a really interesting educational project with kid-curators showing their choice of art.
Come alone, don’t call cops (what a name, by the way!) where the performance “Concrete execution” by Adrien Chevrier took place: a concrete mixer was mistreated
and misused while it was turning
Everything was out of context, out of sequence, out of measurements
And eventually the beast was killed, it stopped turning
Meanwhile Ellen was still trying to get a passport and she was send from the cupboard to the wall as we say in Holland
People kept coming in to cut and paste the collages of EX-MÊKH

And this is the Athens Diary up to now!
There were a lot of side shows, open studios in art school but also “Giving”, this benefit for the blind. 210 artists participated in this.
After having dinner in the hip area near the Keramikos subwaystation we went to Beton 7 which hosts an international show by IS-projects from Leiden (NL) under the name “RNOP – HELLENIKON” and “Doldrums”, a video installation by Jenn E. Norton.
The first space was occupied by a very effective installation-piece by Daniel Gottin which gave the place a structure to be used by the artist of the show
This is the work of Richard van der Aa who curated the IS presentation at Platforms Project.
Next to his are the works of Kyle Jenkins (AU) and Peter Holm (DK)
This is the work of IS-initiator Iemke van Dijk (NL)
And this is the work of the second IS-initiator Guido Winkler (NL)
This is the work of Billy Gruner (AUS), the curator of this show.
In the other space we could see the work of Jenn E. Norton. Doldrums is a video-installation in which light-reflection on refelective surfaces transmitting information through light.
It’s supposed to be seen with 3D glasses which causes a rather trancy atmosphere, which is enhanced by the slowly undulating waves and the music being played
Hoogtij

Haags Hoogtij was als vanouds weer druk en vond onder een goed gesternte plaats. Uw verslaggever had zelf verplichtingen en kon dus niet echt een ronde doen, maar ik heb toch geprobeerd nog wat dingen te zien waarbij de nadruk lag op performance zoals u hier kunt zien. Die performance vond voornamelijk plaats in The Hague Youth Factory, HYF, die zich onder de oude Riva-garage aan de Jan Hendrikstraat bevindt. Een verrassend gevarieerd programma dat werd gecurateerd door P.S. die ambities hebben voor performance in Den Haag.

Topp & Dubio voerden een avondlang durende performance uit onder de naam “The Key to Finding Everythingt that You Have Lost”
Waarbij een absurdistische onmacht om met sleutels om te gaan de boventoon voer
Zelf voerde ik een performance uit onder de naam “Donna mi Prega” naar het gelijknamige gedicht van Guido Cavalcanti in een vertaling van Ezra Pound. Beplakt met mijn huidige preoccupaties nam ik een stapel kranten en een trapje en wandelde zo van mijn atelier naar de performance ruimte.
Ter plekke spreidde ik de kranten uit op de vloer en legde mezelf te slapen. Na een aantal minuten stond ik op, bekeek het publiek, beklom de trap en declameerde het gedicht van de Renaissancedichter. Daarna probeerde ik nog enige tijd mijn ogen dicht te doen op de vloer, pakte mijn spullen op en wandelde terug naar mijn atelier.
Bij terugkomst als persmuskiet was Yvette Teeuwen bezig met haar bewegingsperformance.
Waarbij ook het publiek besnuffeld werd.
Een tafel met materialen die klaar stond voor Lisetteh
En dan begon een mooie performance van nieuwkomer Larysa Bauge. Ze had dit stilleven geprepareerd
kwam op, een eenvoudige melodie eindeloos herhalend. Dan deed ze haar jurk omhoog en nam de geschaafde bietjes in haar mond
en spuugde die in een schoen met hoge hak.
Na die handeling een aantal malen te hebben herhaald deed ze de schoen aan, nog steeds zingend
danste naar de achterliggende wand,
en tekende op de wand met de voet die in de schoen had gezeten. De voet werd een paar keer in de schoen gedoopt om door te tekenen
Tenslotte stapte ze met aan een voet een schoen op de stoel, zette de schaal met bieten op haar hoofd en boog snel voorover waardoor haar jurk en de schaal op de tegelvloer vielen. Vervolgens ging ze af door de scherven.
In een andere hoek van het gebouw waren de restanten te zien van de performance van Sasha Chavez, die bekers thee aan het plafond had gehangen. De thee gleed in druppels langs de omlaag hangende draden op de vloer.
Ik miste de performance, maar de vloer zag er mooi uit!
Bij Moose Space was een energieke video te zien genaamd Freak Show: Charlotte van Winden en Sarah Atzori
Quartair toont een grote installatie die door technologie en wetenschap is beinvloed
Ik vond het een nogal psychedelisch geheel
Weer een performance, ditmaal bij A gallery named Sue aan het Noordeinde. Onder de naam Black and White verplaatsten Susanne Somers en Miranda Meijer schaakstukken in slow-motion op een tafeltje zonder speelveld.
Het begrip tijd werd danig opgerekt door de dames

Klein maar fijn, dat werk!
Tot mijn verrassing hangt er ook werk van Guido Winkler (IS-projects)
Harde abstractie met suggestieve ingrepen
die bijzonder goed werken.
Ook Baracca was aanwezig met een als white-cube ingerichte schaftkeet aan een voormalige brandweerwagen.
Werk van Yvo van der Vat (naar ik aan neem)
en Ibrahim R Ineke waren te zien
Terug bij HYF waren Topp & Dubio nog steeds in de weer met sleutels, de context was iets aangepast
En binnen was de performance van Crutches al voorbij, dit was het restant
maar van Facebook begreep ik dat de dames behoorlijk hadden huis gehouden
Sarah Atzori, die ook al aan de video bij Moose had mee gewerkt,deed een s performance met sound en light in de lockers die er stonden.
Gewoontegetrauw wilde ik tot slot nog een biertje drinken bij Ruimtevaart waar José de Bruin een mooie etalage had samen gesteld.
Het materiaal is eenvoudig, maar het resultaat effectief
en dramatisch.
Binnen heeft ze in de expositie stand ook een installatie gemaakt vol weemoed en verlangen

Resulting in occupancy of the total surroundings of the booth with beautiful works
With 3D sketches of Istanbul
Near this we find a paradoxical booth of Provo Principles from Greece, clearly engaged in the present situation
With a heap of débris from the artists studios
and art in small match boxes
which work out nicely
Atrans from Berlin shows Marian Wijnvoord again with romantic landscapes
The artist has created. work in new techniques, oilpaint on photopaper
and she is clearly satisfied with the result. We are happy that Atrans will coöperate with EX-MÊKH in Berlin in september. Here you see Marian Wijnvoord and Isolde Nagel, the initiator of Atrans in front of their booth.

I liked the booth of the Wiener Art Foundation from Wien (I guess) where painterly action was applied
and nice sculptures were to be found
IS-Projects from Leiden (the Netherlands) was one of my favourites
With an exhibit of abstract art curated by John Tallman
an esthetic oasis in this context.
With the work of initiators Guido Winkler and Iemke van Dijk next to eachother
Lo and Behold is a very interesting initiative witrh actions in public space
with a great number of artists participating, amongst whom a favourite of last year: Maria Lianou
and others whom I don’t know
Incart from Mallorca made a very lively impression
From Rotterdam came our friends of the Tupajumi Foundation with the TFHMF-award
This dynamic work was selected from the USA and came in just before the opening of the fair due to delay at customs.
I personally voted for this piece by Maarten Bel
The Tupajumi members took the votes from visitors
Dienstgebäude had a nice booth too with a.o. the work of initiator Andreas Marti (bottom)
Dutch artist Bob Gramsma
and Ingo Giezendammer with psychedelic wallpaper.

Campus Novel showed a very interesting project about the ever-changing sign of a restaurant in Athens
Kunstenaarsinintiatief Elders from Den Haag (N) was present with strong work by Liesbeth van Woerden, like this sound piece
And Architectural studies by Liesbeth Bos
This piece by Liesbeth van Woerden was particularly popular, you took some time for it by stamping a ticket
A Greek fan from last year came by to see our new installation
And documentation was dutifully taken care of by Maarten Schepers
